Soluble Mediators in Posttraumatic Wrist and Primary Knee Osteoarthritis

چکیده مقاله:
Background: New discoveries about the pathophysiology changed the concept that all forms of osteoarthritis are alike; this lead to the delineation of different phenotypes such as age, trauma or obese related forms. We aim to compare soluble mediator profiles in primary knee and posttraumatic wrist osteoarthritis. Based on the general faster progression rate of wrist osteoarthritis, we hypothesize a more inflammatory profile. Methods: We collected synovial fluid from 20 primary osteoarthritic knee and 20 posttraumatic osteoarthritic wrist joints. 17 mediators were measured by multiplex enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay: chemokine ligand 5, interferon-γ, leukemia inhibitory factor, oncostatin-M, osteoprotegerin, tumor necrosis factor-α, vascular endothelial growth factor, interleukin (IL)-1α, IL-1β, IL-1 receptor antagonist, IL-4, IL-6, IL-7, IL-8, IL-10, IL-13 and IL-17. Results: Ten mediators were higher in posttraumatic osteoarthritic synovial fluid: tumor necrosis factor-α (TNFα), IL-1α, IL-1RA, IL-6, IL-10, IL-17, oncostatin-M, interferon-γ, chemokine ligand 5 and leukemia inhibitory factor(P

Objective: This study was designed to evaluate the clinical symptoms and sonographic characteristics of femoral trochlear cartilage in patients with knee joint osteoarthritis (OA). Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted on 94 patients with painful primary knee OA according to the American College of Rheumatology criteria with a visual analog scale pain score of 30 mm or more. Clinica...

متن کاملNew developments in osteoarthritis. Prevention of injury-related knee osteoarthritis: opportunities for the primary and secondary prevention of knee osteoarthritis
Where risk factors have been identified in knee and hip osteoarthritis (OA), with few exceptions, no prevention strategies have proven beneficial. The major risk factors for knee OA are advanced age, injury and obesity. However, there is limited or no evidence that they are modifiable or to what degree modifying them is effective in preventing development of knee OA or in preventing symptoms an...
متن کاملAnkle rotation changes and its influences in knee osteoarthritis
Background : Biomechanical factors are known to be important in knee osteoarthritis (OA) development and progression. This study was designed to determine changes of hamstrings muscle activation, knee adduction moment and ankle rotation angle in two knee osteoarthritis (mild and moderate) and a healthy control group. Methods: 16 females (10 with mild and 6 with moderate medial knee osteoart...
متن کاملOsteoarthritis of the wrist.
Osteoarthritis of the wrist is one of the most common conditions encountered by the orthopaedic surgeon and requires careful analysis and specific indications and rationale for appropriate treatment.
